Please join us for a Dialogue on Democracy Defenders in SA.

Democracy Defenders are the lifeblood of any healthy democracy. Whether they are investigative journalists or whistle-blowers, ethical officials or community activists, Democracy Defenders take great personal risk in fighting for freedom, accountability, human rights and basic democratic principles. In South Africa today Democracy Defenders play an ever growing role in addressing the challenges the country faces. How can South Africans enable Democracy Defenders to preserve and protect democracy across the nation?

Opening remarks: Prof Adam Habib (Wits Vice-Chancellor).
Panelists: Adv. Thuli Madonsela (former Public Protector), Adv. William Bourdon (PPLAAF Chairperson, Snowden Lawyer), Prof William Gumede (Democracy Works Foundation Chairperson) & Mosilo Mothepu.
Closing remarks: Pravin Gordhan (former Minister of Finance).
Moderator: Thandiwe Matthews (SAHRC/DWF).

The debate shall be followed by a reception. Seats are limited. This is an RSVP-only event.

Please RSVP by noon, 27 July 2017, to rsvp@democracyworks.org.za.
