Democracy Works Foundation (DWF), Platform for the Protection of Whistleblowers (PPLAAF), Wits School of Governance (WSG) and Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) recently hosted a public dialogue centering on the theme of Democracy Defenders. The event on 31 July 2017 was held at the Donald Gordon Auditorium, Wits School of Governance.
The high-level panel comprised of former South African Public Protector – Thuli Madonsela, renowned whistleblower advocate and lawyer to Edward Snowden – William Bourdon, Executive Chairperson of DWF – William Gumede, and was moderated by Thandiwe Matthew.
Opening and closing speakers were Wits Vice-Chancellor – Adam Habib and former Minister of Finance – Pravin Gordhan.
