Malawi Parliamentary Support Progam (PSP)

The Parliamentary Support Program is a five-year initiative, funded by USAID, aiming to contribute to the country’s democratic governance by supporting the Parliament of Malawi fulfil its legislative, oversight, and representative functions. The Program provides technical and expert support to parliamentary committees and caucuses; supports cross-institutional coordination between Parliament and oversight institutions; and facilitates collaboration and coordination between the Parliament and stakeholders, including civil society organizations (CSOs) and the media.

It is a collaborative initiative being implemented by Democracy Works Foundation (DWF) that has a presence across Southern Africa and the UK-based Global Partners Governance (GPG), with the lead implementation of the Program by Democracy International Inc., headquartered in the Washington D.C. area, USA. The Program is also being implemented in partnership with several Malawi-based CSO partners, the Centre for Social Accountability (CSAT), the Institute for Public Opinion and Research (IPOR) and the Youth and Society (YAS).

The Program aims, with a common purpose, to support the effectiveness and independence of Parliament through strengthening parliamentary functions, enhancing legislative oversight, and promoting transparency and accountability within the Parliament of Malawi. By providing targeted support and capacity-building, the PSP seeks to empower Malawi’s legislative body to better serve its citizens and uphold democratic values.
