Youth Day 2020

Today is a very important day in South Africa, it is one that reminds us of how far the country has come and how hard our forefathers have fought for us to get free education. While the road is still long and hard, we give thanks to the many young people, who are now our elders and parents, who fought on June 16th, 1976 for equality and a South Africa that was in recognition of its young black South Africans and young people. As a young person today, I see my role in society as one that continues to advance the struggle and one that continues to speak on issues of injustice and issues of inequality in the education sector. It has been a pleasure to work as part of Democracy Works Foundation’s civic and dialogue [Democracy Works Academy] that seeks to up-skill young people. however, there is so much more this country has to do in favour of its young people as they are the corner stone of South Africa’s future and development.

Noxolo Ntaka

Noxolo was part of the founding class of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls and an alumnus of the South Africa-Washington International Program (SAWIP) where she interned at the United States Congress in Washington, D.C. She holds two Master's degrees in African and Political Studies, from the University of Oxford and WITS University respectively. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Studies at the University of Cape Town.
